It does still take a while to bring up a window that has a long history in it... I don't really know if I can fix that.

New Google Talk uses Internet Explorer Browser Plugin to Display Messages

The new google talk uses an internet explorer plugin to display messages.

If you do not have the new google talk you can download it here.

Basically the way I did this was I made my own theme (A guide that I wrote about making/editing themes in google talk is here) and I added in some code into the html file that displays the messages (Outgoing/Content.html) to display an image.

The exact code was this:

This code referenced an image on one of my other sites IPNow.Org which displayed an image of the current browser based on the useragent.

The image in the screenshot clearly shows that google is using the internet explorer plugin to display their messages.

Themes in the New Google Talk

You can create themes in google talk.

First of all you will need to download the new version Here.

Themes in google talk are stored in c:/documents and settings/*your user name*/local settings/application data/google/google talk/themes/system/chat
and c:/documents and settings/*your user name*/local settings/application data/google/google talk/themes/user/chat/
IMPORTANT: TO INSURE THAT YOUR THEME WILL REMAIN AFTER AN UPDATE PUT THE THEME IN BOTH FOLDERS

I wrote a sample theme just for the heck of it... It is located at http://gtalk.anthonysottile.com/mytheme.zip

To install this theme you must unzip it and drag the folder named MyBubblePicture (the farthest one in (in the zip I think the folder structure is /mybubblepicture/mybubblepicture/contents...)) to the path that I mentioned earlier.

Here is a basic tutorial of how I did it:

Basically I went to the folder I mentioned earlier.

I made a copy of /bubblepicture for this test

Basically in /bubblepicture/contents/resources there are a bunch of files and two folders and a css file... All we will be worrying about is the css file

Open up the css file...

Let me give you a rundown of what each of the styles do (I'm guessing on a bunch of them)

BODY - the main section that the instant messages are held in
DIV#content - where everything is that has text
DIV#insert - no clue what this does
DIV.system1st - no clue again
DIV.systemNth - yeah clueless
DIV.b1(through b4) - I am guessing these have something to do with the bottom margins
DIV.chat - this is where the message is... the whole thing including the username and the text and the icon
DIV.chat .icon - Chat icon
DIV.chat DIV.msg - chat message
DIV.chat DIV .Nth - there can be multiple messages before the other user responds... I am guessing this covers them
DIV.chat SPAN.salutation - I think this is where it tells your status when you first open a chat window or when it tells the time
DIV.out - this is where the outgoing message is including the text, username, and icon
DIV.t-o - this is the top section above the username where the top border sort of is in the outgoing message
DIV.b-o - this is the bottom section below the text where the bottom border sort of is in the outgoing message
DIV.out.icon - this is the icon for outgoing messages
DIV.in - this is where the incoming message is including the text, username, and icon
DIV.t-i - this is the top section above the username where the top border sort of is in the incoming message
DIV.b-i - this is the bottom section below the text where the bottom border sort of is in the incoming message
DIV.in.icon - this is the incoming icon
DIV.clear - No clue
DIV.break - No clue

Basically to do mine I had to add in DIV.t-i and DIV.b-i

To select a theme after making changes you must go to settings-> appearance and change it to another theme
press ok
then go to settings->appearance and change it to the theme that you just edited

Vulnerability in Gmail

I was recently attempting to mail some javascript code from my yahoo account to my gmail when I came across this vulnerability.

Apparently javascript will run if it is withing the preview of the message.

I only tested this sending from a yahoo account. Sending gmail to gmail appears to filter this out.

This is what the message has to compose of

A short subject to increase the ammount of code to run

A short bit of text in the body so that the code isn't treated as quoted text

And your code

My simple test was : Subject: a Body: asdfasdf<script>alert("asdF");</script>

Last time I killed my friends server so I uploaded it to flickr instead.

This vulnerability could be used to gather email addresses. Or even possibly to compromise the account.

About the fire from a couple weeks ago... It was a false alarm...

What happened was a kid threw a nickel at another kid and missed. He hit the sprinkler and set it off. The sprinler had not been flushed out in a decade so it smelled. It smelled like natural gas so they evacuated.

And that sucked...

Anyways a couple days ago I got my firefox t-shirt... And I wore it to school...

A kid came up to me and hes like "I love your shirt" and that made my day...

Hello,

Sorry for the long time that I didn't update in. But anyways today was an interesting day.

Just after getting out of my last class I was walking down the hall as usual. I was about 15 feet from my locker when the fire alarm went off. And I thought "yeah right this is just a stupid drill", and kept walking to my locker. I was about 5 feet from my locker when a teacher yelled "What the heck are you doing this isnt a drill people!". I freaked and with my 3 books, 2 binders, and a folder, ran outside (well I kinda trotted with all that stuff I was carrying). So we waited for like 5 minutes when we heard sirens. That was when it hit us that "hey, maybe it isn't a drill!?!?". So we waited for another 15 minutes, the busses apparently left us. And people were still freaking out. The cell phone lines were jambed as many people around me realized as they dialed to no avail. Eventually we got the all clear to go inside. I ran to my locker as fast as I could. Grabbed my stuff. And made a bee-line to the bus. I was one of two people that had not already said "screw getting my homework and stuff, I'm goin to the bus". I panicked as I was about 50 feet away from the busses when they started leaving. I ran... and fortunately my bus hadn't left yet. I asked the kid sitting next to me what happened. He said all he knew was that something either leeked (as in gas or water) or something caught on fire. As I was leaving the building I also heard that all after-school activities were still on except those in the auditorium. So I'm guessing it was something in the auditorium either leaking or catching on fire, or a combination of the two. But thats just an assumption and you know what happens when you assum!?!? (You make an ass out of u and me)

So anyways... If I get more information I will comment back.
